Mr. Kent Alford

Vice Chairperson

Kent Alford, MSN, BSN, FNP‑BC, PMHN‑BC, has spent his career standing at the crossroads of compassion, crisis, and leadership. What began as a young nurse’s commitment to caring for vulnerable patients has evolved into more than a decade of guiding some of the region’s largest and most complex behavioral health systems.

Today, Kent serves as the Director of Nursing at Recovery Centers of America, where he leads the clinical heartbeat of a 120‑bed detox and residential treatment program. His work blends hands‑on nursing expertise with executive‑level strategy—shaping policies, strengthening teams, and raising the standard of care for individuals navigating substance use and acute withdrawal.

Before joining RCA, Kent held several high‑impact leadership roles, including Chief Nursing Officer at Poplar Springs Hospital and Systems Director of Behavioral Health for University of Maryland Capital Region Health. Across these positions, he became known for stabilizing struggling programs, building strong multidisciplinary teams, and driving major improvements in quality, safety, and patient outcomes. His leadership helped launch new behavioral health units, expand community partnerships, and secure successful regulatory surveys across multiple hospitals.

Kent’s influence extends beyond hospital walls. For more than a decade, he has taught psychiatric nursing, leadership, and medical‑surgical care as an adjunct faculty member—shaping the next generation of nurses with the same passion that fueled his own career. His voice has also reached national audiences through media appearances, community forums, and advocacy work focused on mental health access and stigma reduction.

A board‑certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse, Kent brings clinical depth, operational insight, and a steady, people‑centered leadership style to every environment he serves. Whether he’s guiding a team through a crisis, building new programs from the ground up, or mentoring emerging clinicians, Kent remains driven by a simple belief: behavioral health care can change lives—and strong leadership makes that possible.
